What Is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a method of changing your thoughts, behaviours, and even your body’s biochemistry using the power of your imagination!

Hypnosis works by guiding you into a very deep state of relaxation, which some hypnotherapists prefer to call a “trance”. This is not to be confused with sleep. You are actually more alert than during normal waking consciousness. This state has been referred to as “double consciousness.”  During this stage, the hypnotherapist begins providing the unconscious mind with positive suggestions and metaphors (stories) to help achieve the goals of the individual. In this state it is also possible to recall any event from the past that may have been repressed.

Hypnosis is one of the quickest and most exciting ways to make positive, lasting change to your health and life. And contrary to popular myth, hypnosis is completely safe… and you can experience huge leaps forward with just one session!

How Does Hypnosis Work?

Hypnosis works by guiding the mind into a state of deep relaxation. In this “trance” state, the critical filtering capabilities of the conscious mind are bypassed, allowing the hypnotherapist to provide suggestions direct to the unconscious mind… the “control panel” of the brain. The terms sub-conscious mind and unconscious mind are identical.

Hypnosis also works by the hypnotherapist talking in the “language” of the unconscious mind, ensuring the conscious mind doesn’t interfere at all. This is achieved through a combination of guided visualization exercises and through the use of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).

Can I be Made to do Anything Against my Will?

Contrary to popular belief the hypnotist cannot make you do anything against your will. The way hypnosis works is that it makes it almost effortless to do what you really want to do. It eliminates all your inhibitions and limiting beliefs & concepts about yourself so that you can do whatever you want to. The hypnotist can’t make anyone stop smoking unless they want to stop themselves, it then makes it much easier to stop.

This might be confusing if you have ever seen a stage show, which gives the impression that the hypnotist is controlling the mind of the individual. However at the start of the show the hypnotist will tell the audience that he only wants people who are prepared to “play full out, have tremendous fun and be totally outrageous” to come on the stage. Only the extreme extroverts in the audience volunteer, and there is then a very careful selection procedure known as “pyramiding” to select the volunteers who are going to play full out. Many of the original volunteers get sent back down into the audience. Hypnosis works by making things almost effortless so it enables those who are left on the stage to effortlessly behave like idiots.

Stage shows can be very entertaining but they give the wrong idea about hypnosis and hypnotherapy, which is a great shame.

Will Hypnosis Work For Me?

The fact that you may be considering hypnosis is enough to deduce that hypnosis WILL work for you. Hypnosis doesn’t work if the person undergoing the session doesn’t want to be hypnotized.

As you may have realized, there are a lot of myths in the hypnosis world – such as that only suggestible people can be hypnotized, or that hypnosis doesn’t work if the individual doesn’t believe in the process. Both suggestions are incorrect. Research has shown that intelligent people are actually easier to hypnotize, and that a healthy scepticism is the best approach when trying out any new self development tool.

So in brief… ANYONE can be hypnotized so long as they are willing

What Does Hypnosis “Feel” Like?

Hypnosis feels incredible!

Firstly, don’t expect to feel like you are in a trance, it’s just like having your eyes closed but then during your session, you’ll feel immensely relaxed. And when finished, you’ll be brought back to the waking world feeling fully alive and energetic, truly ready for what the world has to offer you.

For some people, the hypnosis session may feel as though it lasted just a few minutes. For other, it seems as though they’ve been in that relaxed state for hours. That’s perfectly normal… hypnosis can be so relaxing, you tend to lose track of time!

What Can Hypnosis Be Used For?

Hypnosis can be used for almost anything… changing your thoughts, behaviours, even healing your body!

You can use hypnosis to boost your confidence, increase your memory, cure your stage fright, lose weight, bulk up your muscle mass, develop your psychic powers, improve your sport, grow taller, stop smoking… and a whole lot more!

Your mind creates your own reality. It can do anything. Hypnosis is your key to taking control. The only time where it won’t work is for medical emergencies, you could not use hypnosis to treat a heart attack or a broken leg, although it could be used for pain control.

How Safe Is Hypnosis?

Hollywood, James Bond movies and the Manchurian Candidate along with people like Derren Brown may have helped popularize hypnosis as a method of controlling the mind… however they have done a huge disservice to the use of clinical hypnotherapy. There are numerous myths and urban legends concerning hypnosis, so let’s deal with a few here and now.

Is hypnosis safe?

Absolutely. Hypnosis is a completely natural method of absorbing information. In fact, we all enter hypnotic states every day in our waking lives. You CANNOT be hypnotized if you don’t wish to be. And you CANNOT be hypnotized to do anything against your will.

Can I get stuck in hypnosis?

Not at all! During a hypnosis session, you’re simply in a state of deep relaxation. If your hypnotherapist was to leave during a session, you would either simply wake up or drift off to sleep. No-one has ever been “stuck” in a state of terminal hypnosis!

I’m too intelligent to be hypnotized, surely?

Another misconception. Studies have shown that intelligent people are actually easier to hypnotize. And it doesn’t matter if you’re sceptical of the process… the fact you’re trying hypnosis shows you have an open mind. The results will prove themselves!

Hypnosis is a totally natural, completely safe method of self-improvement… and can help you achieve goals you never thought possible!
